The Hunter Olive Association is an association of olive growers throughout the Hunter Valley. The Association organises field days, publishes a bi-monthly newsletter and is here for the benefit of olive growers and olive lovers generally. Our growers produce olives suitable for both olive oil and table, fresh and pickling olives in a wide variety of locations throughout the Hunter Valley. We have information about olive trees, Australian olive oil, locally grown and pickled olives, technical assistance, new plantings, pests and diseases. We
also provide information on how to grow olives, how to process the oil and where to get help, as well as links to
other regional associations and our national body, the Australian
Olive Association. |
Each year there are a number of regular events for olive lovers and olive growers. Most notable are:
The Feast of the Olive, Hunter Valley - held at the end of September each year to celebrate all things olive including oil appreciation classes, cooking demonstrations, market stalls where you can try and buy local olive produce as well as a wide range of other gourmet delights.
The Hunter Valley Olive Show - entries need to be in by late August to allow time for testing and judging with the results announced in time for the Feast of the Olive - and your chance to buy the award-winning oils.
Australian Olive Expo, Canberra - now three days long and incorporating the Taste the Olive Festival, this is also the time and venue for the Australian Olive Association AGM. In 2010 this may move to Adelaide.
Hunter Olive Association AGM, Hunter Valley - held towards the end of May, this is our annual get-together to elect a committee and present to members the results of our last 12 months work.
Members' Christmas Barbecue, Pokolbin Estate Vineyard, Hunter Valley - an informal get together just before Christmas held at one of our member's boutique vineyard. Bring a plate, all welcome.
