Hunter Olive Association Newsletter December 2019

December 3rd 2019
Greetings,

It was a pleasure to meet up again during our Hunter Olive Show in November. These gatherings help share our various Olive Experiences – and lately hardships, but there’s always something to learn.
Congratulations to all winners. And especially Alan and Steve for managing the show. And Adina again for hosting.

Tasting the winning entries – a highlight of the evening.

HOA activities 2020 will start on Sunday February 9th. SAVE THE DATE

Subject to member interest are two topics we believe are of interest. These are:

  1. Compliance and regulatory issues for smaller olive businesses. Recent changes to the NSW Food Act can present a number of issues to be addressed by anyone intending to sell olive products. There are also some potential thorny points to recognised with OHS and workers compensation cover and use of chemicals.
  2. Understanding Nutrition. This would build on the two workshops on soil that we held with Col Freeman. AS well as follow up on these workshops we would like to address the area of leaf tissue analysis and how this should be interpreted jointly with soil test results.

Both sessions would be a half day, but NOT necessarily on the same day. To help our planning can you please advise by return whether you are interested in either potential workshop.
Please RSVP to Mike Wilson at  secretary@hunterolives.asn.au if you are interested.
