The committee of the HOA held our first meeting for 2022 on Feb 21, to set the important dates for the year:
Hunter Olive Show. Opening date Monday July 18th 2022
Entries close Friday September 2nd 2022
Judging Saturday September 24th 2022
Show date. Thursday October 6th 2022
AGM. is usually held in Winter after harvest. Thursday June 30th 2022
It will be held at Tintilla Estate again, with thanks to James and the Lusby family.
Olive Oil tasting appreciation day for growers. Cancelled last year because of Covid,
Steve Mitchell will run, members will bring their new oil and learn to taste and discuss oil attributes. Also to include help with marketing, the last week-end of July if possible?
Follow up field day by Peter Herborn with guest speaker Robert Spooner- Hart, this will include more detail on pest and disease treatment, and grove management over Winter. We are looking at late April.
Peter Allan, HOA member running PKA land services, is negotiating with a company with an Afron pruner to come to the Hunter if there is enough interest. Please contact him(peter244@ozemail.com.au) if you need to prune, and how many trees.
There is now a list of businesses that can be contacted for help with harvesting(and other grove management) and oil pressing. It can be found under’ Resources’ on the HOA website, and additions are welcome.
